They were out of more interesting draft brews and no flights so not too much for us here (we are a bit jaded I guess). The service was also a bit slow and not terribly friendly. The atmosphere is definitely a “converted 7-11” vibe so visiting in the day time doesn’t do the place any favors. That said we liked the pretzel and it does look like the burger special might be worth a try.
Wife and I had one beer and left. Nice outside seating area. Bartenders seem miserable. Seems like they started out trying to be kid friendly but devolved into not actually wanting kids. Tons of signs/warnings about kids, and an attempt at a playground sort of thing that is useless.
My wife and I were looking for a place to grab a bite for dinner and instead of the usual places we decided to go here instead, the place was wide open with plenty of seating. You order your food and drinks with the bartender then they bring it out to you. I was very impressed with the selection of beer on tap and the food was amazing. My only gripe is that I wish the beer was a bit colder, they were cold but not as cold as I’d expected. Great place and friendly atmosphere, definitely be back.
Chips and salsa were good, I loved their fries. Food overall was good, different taste for what im used to as far as barbacoa but it's a nice spot to go grab a bite and drink some beer. We went early in the day, not too busy. I wish they had more ciders.
We liked this place. We're a family of four, with two young boys, so any place that has to room for them to move around a bit is a hit with us. I don't know if this was a special day, but they had a bounce house for the kids. Plus there was some hula hoops, a balloon maker, a small play house, and unicorn snow cones was there too.
Wife and I got the lazy oaks burger (think it was called that). Pretty good. We also shared some fries. Boys got hot dogs. No complaints.
Only reason I have it a 4 was because it seems a tad small, especially parking. There seems to be parking across the street, but not sure if that's permanent or people are just doing that.
We'll probably be back, especially when it's a bit cooler. I want to try some of their other menu items (especially the BBQ ones) and I wouldn't mind going in the evening sans kids either.
Some of the best bar food I’ve had in Houston! Had to double check with my server, but the food is indeed made from scratch. They have an amazing burger reminiscent of an In N Out animal style. The fried chicken sandwich is also awesome! And the fries!! 🤤I’ve also tried some of their special dishes and was really impressed by the schnitzel. The service here is so friendly, attentive and unpretentious. Plenty of seating, televisions, open space (felt extremely safe there even sitting inside as there are large, open garage doors). They’re also dog friendly! A great neighborhood spot. They have overflow parking in the lot across the street.
When the weather is nice, a beer garden is one of the best places to be. With a cool drink, nothing feels better than the great outdoors, surrounded by the natural elements and, hopefully, good conversation as well. My love of beer gardens led me to check out Lazy Oaks Beer Garden, located in west Houston close to the Memorial City Mall.
Lazy Oaks Beer Garden has a neighborhood feel and is a chill type of place, with a long interior that features a bar along the back wall, high tables and low tables, and barstools along the edge of the bar itself. The stools at the tables don’t have backs and are a little less comfortable than I prefer, but the place to be is the outside beer garden. It’s larger than the interior space and features picnic table seating, television sets, and a partial covering just in case it starts to sprinkle or if you want some protection from the hot sun.
For beverages, Lazy Oaks Beer Garden is first and foremost, a place for beer. I counted about 23 taps the last time I visited, most of them Texas- brewed suds, but there are out- of- state options as well. If beer isn’t too your liking, never fear- they have a full- service bar and can mix up any drink you like.
The food served at Lazy Oaks Beer Garden is typical American pub fare, such as sandwiches, tacos, wings, etc. I find the food good overall, especially when consumed with beer. The fried chicken sandwich was a little more bready than I prefer, but the burgers are hearty and, again, a great match with a glass of local brew.
For parking, the immediate parking lot fills up quickly but keep in mind that there is extra parking space available across the street. The prices at Lazy Oaks Beer Garden are slightly less than at other, similar establishments, which is a plus. It’s not the prettiest place on the inside, but as a beer garden, Lazy Oaks Beer Garden works and it’s a place I will return to when I’m in the area.
Born and raised in Spring Branch, I know there are many amazing local taco/food spots in this area and this one is top notch. Came here for a quick stop, had a couple or drinks and food and will be back often. Tacos were fresh, delicious and not over priced. Husband had the Burnt End Burger and absolutely loved it. Highly recommend this hidden gem! Bonus, they have a large outdoor space and a playground, a plus if you have little ones.
